Congressman Chaka Fattah Releases the Following Statement on the Impending Confirmation of Judge Samuel Alito to Justice of the United States Supreme Court
January 26, 2006

WASHINGTON, DC -- "The expected confirmation of Judge Samuel Alito to Justice of the United States Supreme Court raises questions about the rights Americans currently enjoy.

"I have strong reservations that when Judge Alito joins the nation's highest Court, he will be party to diluting the freedoms and liberties that were so valiantly fought for by some of the Court's most noted jurists.

"Senators who vote in favor of Judge Alito will be held accountable when the constitutional rights that are valued by Americans today are eroded by his long standing and far-reaching judgments of tomorrow. If judicial confirmations were the responsibility of the House my vote would be a resounding NAY."
